Zumba is like, the latest, newest fitness craze that’s gaining a fair bit of popularity in Singapore gyms and fitness centers. If asked to describe it, I would say it’s like a mash-up of Latin dancing and hip-hop dance moves done aerobics style.
From the official Zumba website : Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party that’s moving millions of people toward joy and health.
I gave Zumba a test run of 6 classes together with Beetrice last year through a Groupon deal at Physical ABuse. It’s not too bad once you get the hang of it and if you find an instructor that you like who does choreography that you like.
Or maybe that’s just me, because I am rather picky about the classes I attend. Must have good choreography (not too repetitive and boring or aerobics like), must have awesome music I can rock out to and the instructor needs to know how to communicate with the class.
You don’t need any basics to do Zumba, just a willingness to have fun and let go. If you have a bit of Latin dance background you’ll find it easier to get the hang of Zumba. Otherwise just go with the flow.
I’ve resumed my broken/dropped resolution of 2012 to get fitter and started with another round of Zumba classes (organized by my company) last Tuesday.
Are you getting fit this year too? Do tell in the comments.
Hands up those of you who know the Watsons brand!
Here’s a fact you might not know about Watsons – did you know that Watsons is the largest health & beauty retailer in Asia with over 2,000 stores and 1,200 pharmacies in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea and Indonesia?
I didn’t know that and now I do.
Recently, a bunch of beauty bloggers were invited to the first-ever Watsons Beauty Day Out where we were introduced to some of the brands that you can find in Watsons.
I was a bit KO’ed that day because I’d just flown back in to Singapore from a business trip and then spent the entire day wrestling with work before heading for the event, but put a beauty blogger in a place with new brands to explore and products to play with and… I totally forgot my tiredness and even about the need to eat! LOL.
There are quite a number of photos so hit the jump and keep on reading. Read the rest of this entry »
Remember when I reviewed Marena ShapeWear I mentioned that it could be worn even during workouts?
Apparently, Spanx has jumped onto the bandwagon of shapewear as workout gear as seen in this article from The Daily Mail in UK.
I can understand wanting to look good at the gym; after all, I do look out for workout gear that flatters my figure (so far I’m loving my workout pants from Jockey!). But to squeeze myself into shapewear to do a workout? That’s just beyond me as I generally find shapewear to be restrictive of my movement.
What’s your take on this? Is it an aye or a nay to shapewear at the gym?

I was browsing through the Internet for my weekly fix of entertainment gossip when I came across this photo of Cameron Diaz from a photoshoot for Cosmopolitan magazine.
Cameron has always been slim and leggy, but I say wow, she’s super fit and beautifully toned and I think she’s so much hotter now compared to her younger days. I think she’s also a lot more confident with her own body now and it comes across in the photo.
I’m posting this to the Style File as an inspiration to myself to work hard at aging as well as Cameron. *wink*
