Quotable quotes on the ceiling at &Made – I’m so gonna live by that last one “sleep ‘til you’re hungry, eat ‘til you’re sleepy”…

A 3-star Michelin chef (Bruno Menard) opens a burger joint. If that doesn’t pique your (foodie) interest, I don’t know what else will. I only knew about this place when my self-confessed burger lover friend chanced upon reviews of &Made online and suggested that we check it out for dinner after work.

I opted to craft my own burger – this here is my creation of a ground chicken patty, topped off with yuzu-kosho mayonnaise, caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese in a brioche bun with tomatoes, lettuce, onions and dill pickle (which worked out to around SGD 18 in total?). The ingredients were fresh and the burger was a decent size for me. I liked the combination of flavours I chose for my burger (duh!) although I would’ve liked it even better if the kitchen was a tad more generous with the caramelized onions.

We also ordered fries (both garlic & vinegar fries (SGD 3.00) and truffle fries (SGD 6.00)) to share. The fries come with a small serving of &Made’s BBQ sauce, which I found nice but I preferred my fries as they were. My friend commented that the garlic & vinegar fries did not have enough vinegar ‘kick’ to it and I thought that Charlie + Co did a better, more truffle-y version of the truffle fries.

What really blew me away, however, was not the burger or the fries, but the seasonal desserts. (Do bear in mind that the menu changes from month to month so you will get some variety in the choices on offer.) We shared profiteroles (SGD 14.00) and a half-baked chocolate cake (SGD 14.00), both of which were simply decadent and left me wanting more. If I had known just how yummy the desserts would turn out to be, I would’ve just skipped my burger and gotten desserts for my dinner. In particular, the half-baked chocolate cake was just oozing with chocolate-y goodness and perfectly moist. Paired with ice-cream, it was worth every calorie-laden mouthful.

Service was relatively fast and friendly. Water is free and the waitstaff attentively top it up at regular intervals. Your table is promptly but unobtrusively cleared as you finish your meal and the waitstaff are smart enough to provide extra napkins, plates and cutlery for sharing without being prompted for it.

This is not a ‘cheap’ place to dine at – on average we paid about SGD 36.00 per person without drinks, but I reckon you get quality (food and service) that you pay for and I would be willing to return.

Seen on the Market : butter LONDON polishes now available in Singapore

Nail polish lovers rejoice! butter LONDON polishes are now available in Singapore. :)

Thanks to a tip-off from the Make-up Blogette on Twitter on Saturday evening, I called upon my fellow polish collector Beetrice and we made a prompt foray to hunt for butter LONDON on Sunday. I was so paranoid that I would arrive to find no more butter LONDON left, or, in a worst case scenario, plenty of other shades but not the shade I’d been coveting since last year! :P

For those on the hunt, you will find the elusive butter LONDON stand hidden in the racks in the general vicinity of L’Occitane and Korres at Basement 1 of Takashimaya (seems like a strange place to place all these niche brands to me) – so keep your eyes peeled for it as we nearly missed it!

It’s really a tiny stand – only half a shelf – and they’ve brought in limited shades in even more limited quantities (only 1 or 2 bottles per shade). As you can see in the picture above, that’s all there is (there are about 1 or 2 more shades at the side that got cropped out of the picture), and that was BEFORE we made our purchases on Sunday afternoon. The sales assistant (funny aunty! :) ) mentioned that restocks might be made every 2 weeks depending on demand so you can expect that I’ll be frequenting Takashimaya a lot more regularly in the future.

I’m sure you’re wondering if I managed to hunt down my desired butter LONDON polish in the end. Ladies, I’m glad to say that I did. The last Victoriana is now safely residing with me in the company of my other polishes. Hehehe. Review to come in due course.

You can also check-out the Make-up Blogette’s post about butter LONDON here.

butter LONDON polishes are 3 free and come in 11ml sizes. Polishes retail at SGD 25.00 per bottle. Treatments retail at SGD 32.00 per bottle.

(I am rather late with this post cos my Hong Kong trip and work came up, but better late than never!) :P

Last month, I was lucky enough to be Beetrice’s plus one at Bella Box’s High Tea for bloggers. We had no idea what was in store for us but I can tell you now that it was fun!

The event was held at Arteastiq Tea Lounge @ Mandarin Gallery. It was my first time there and it would be a place I’d like to revisit – it seems very popular with the hip SG crowd, judging by the stream of people that came while we were there.

I have quite a number of pictures from the event after the jump so keep on reading! Read the rest of this entry »

Style File : Aldo Doyscher heels

Just last week, I was out for dinner with Beetrice in Orchard Road and as fate would have it, we walked past an Aldo store with a sale sign. You know what happens when girls see sales signs, right? :P

So we walked in just to ‘look-see’ (or so we told ourselves). Haha. And you already know what’s coming next…

Aldo Doyscher in black leather

Say hello to the latest (and most expensive) addition to my shoe wardrobe, Aldo’s Doyscher in black leather.

With an almost 4 1/2in heel (yes, I measured!), the Doyscher is possibly the highest high heel I’ve owned to date and if I do say so myself, it makes my legs look longer. Naturally, it is not for traipsing around on the roadsides of Singapore nor is it meant for long shopping expeditions. So for now, I shall just prance around in my heels in the office ala The Devil Wears Prada. Hehe.

The recommended retail price for Aldo’s Doyscher heels is SGD 159.00.

I figure the Doyscher will make an excellent stand-in (possible dupe?) until the day I can get my hands on these gorgeous Christian Louboutin Declic heels below. :D

Style File : Royal Wedding Dinner Look

I discovered Daniel Yam Apparel earlier this year when I was searching high and low for a gown for a rather posh wedding dinner where Malaysian royalty would be present. Me being me with my decidedly classic sense of style (my mom calls it old-fashioned style :P ), I was determined that I wanted a gown that was simple, not fussy, yet chic and elegant. None of those beads and frills and ruffles for me, thankyewellymuch.

I had been in and out of numerous shops in both Malaysia and Singapore when I happened to walk into Daniel Yam’s boutique at Wisma Atria on Orchard Road with Beetrice. And lo and behold, there was my perfect dress in a shade of deep turquoise blue. So into the dressing room I went and it was a dream come true. A simple tube design in a satiny fabric with some folds draped down the front (good for concealing any belly bulges) that fit perfectly with no alterations needed. I was definitely set on the design but torn between my favorite color (the turquoise blue) and a chili red which decidedly made me look fairer but just screamed “look at me ma i’m wearing a red dress”.

I knew I wanted the dress but dithered over my color choice for about two weeks before I eventually made my way back to Daniel Yam, but this time I dropped by the boutique in Marina Square. And there, was the same dress in a lovely fuchsia pink that made me look equally as fair as the chili red and also stood out but didn’t scream for attention.

Here’s how I looked that night for the wedding dinner :

I loved my ensemble that night and got quite a number of compliments too, so I’ll definitely be heading back to Daniel Yam for more dresses when the occasion calls for it. :)
